SUBANG JAYA: Reports of the alleged arrest of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low, will need to be verified, said Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

"I cannot confirm it yet and I will have to check," said the Inspector-General of Police when asked to comment on the recent reports of Jho Low's alleged arrest in China.

Earlier, in a press conference after a vehicle presentation ceremony at Persada Plus here on Thursday, the IGP said that an Interpol Red Notice has already been sent out for the elusive businessman.

"We are also not sure of his exact location. We don't have complete information."

"Based on our intelligence, we believe that he has travelled to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and China. That is the latest that we have. But we are not exactly sure of his current whereabouts.

"If we have his exact location, we will narrow it down and seek help from the relevant country. It is still an ongoing process."

Outside Parliament, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he welcomed news of the alleged arrest of Jho Low in China.

However, the Prime Minister said that he is unaware of the recent news.

“I hope he has been arrested,” he said.

China Press and Sarawak Report, citing an unnamed Hong Kong radio station, reported that Low had fled to the mainland from Hong Kong.

According to the reports, Low is detained in the mainland pending Dr Mahathir's planned visit to China next month.
